“Saving Kidneys” training in Ukraine

16 November 2018

16 November 2018 // From 7 to 9 November, our board member Dr. František Horn and the Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus Association of Slovakia were in Ternopil, Ukraine for a training organised by the Association of Parents of Children with Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus “Lights of spirit”. Child-Help International and various other organisations also supported and partnered for the project.

The training, called “Saving Kidneys”, was addressed to physicians, parents and children, aiming to increase their awareness about ways to prevent complications and support the health of children with complex conditions.

The second day of the training was completely dedicated to the continence care for children with spina bifida. It included both a theoretical seminar on continuous care and a practical training on clean intermittent catheterisation.

IF is really thankful to “Lights of spirit”, Dr. František Horn, his colleagues paediatric urologist Dr. Peter Barton and nurse Zuzana Medvedová, the Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus Association of Slovakia and everyone who participated. This project is an excellent example of how SBH associations can work together to improve knowledge and care, for the benefit of people living with spina bifida and hydrocephalus.
