Raise awareness on the International Days for Persons with Disabilities!

2 November 2022

The International Federation for Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus (IF) is looking forward to celebrating the upcoming awareness days: International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) and the European Day of Persons with Disabilities (EDPD).

IF advocates for the rights of persons with disabilities. IF takes this day as an opportunity to support the European Union and raise awareness on Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus (SBH) which is a complex physical condition that touches many aspects of the individual with SBH’s life, sensitises about disability inclusion and speaks up about their challenges and their need should help the SBH community to go forward and be heard.

On December 3rd, the International Federation for Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus (IF) will celebrate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD).

The United Nations General Assembly declared this day in 1992 (by resolution 47/3) with the goal to promote the rights and well-being of people with disabilities in all aspects of society and development, as well as to raise awareness about their position in political, social, economic, and cultural life.

The European Day of Persons with Disabilities (EDPD) is celebrated through an annual conference organised by the European Commission in partnership with European Disability Forum. This two day long conference marks the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. This year the conference will take place in person in Brussels, Belgium 24 – 25 November.

The focus of the 2022 agenda will be on a) young people with disabilities, b) what international instruments are there to help make the ambition for the Union of Equality a reality, and c) addressing violence in the context of disability rights.
