Open Letter to the EPSCO Council

11 March 2019

11 March 2019 // Together with 12 other NGOs, IF sent  an open letter developed by COFACE Families Europe, calling the European Council to approve the Work-Life Balance Directive. It is a directive intended to improve the lives of families all over Europe, introducing some important changes in terms of shared parental leave for working parents,  fighting family and child poverty, and promoting both gender equality and employment rights.

IF joins the letter on behalf of people living with spina bifida and hydrocephalus, calling for the Directive to be in line with the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UN CRPD), and supporting parents of chìldren with disabilities, so they don’t have to reduce their career ambitions or quit their job to take good care of their children.

On 24th January 2019, the co-legislators reached a provisional agreement on the Directive, which now needs to be approved, implemented and monitored. What we ask now, is a swift adoption of the Directive, calling the Employment, Social Policy, Health and Consumer Affairs Council to do so.
