Bangladesh Hydrocephalus and Spina Bifida Welfare Trust

Description

Bangladesh Hydrocephalus and Spina Bifida Welfare Trust (BHSBWT) started its journey in 2019 with a mission for a society where children with hydrocephalus and Spina bifida will enjoy full human rights as any other citizen in the country in line with the UNCRPD declaration. They will be ensured with the necessary treatment, physical and emotional care, and family and social support to live a respectable life.

The BHSBWT arranges the treatment at a designated hospital irrespective of ethnical or socio-economic background. The poor patients are given free treatment that includes the cost of treatment, medicines, and hospital stays. Operated children are given a pram that helps keep their heads straight after the operation. This is very useful for the mothers to feed their babies. The other activities include; raising social awareness on the prevention and treatment of hydrocephalus and spina bifida, and promoting for consumption of folic acid by women during their early pregnancy and before. In some cases, the family is given financial support for meeting the children’s day-to-day expenses.

BHSBWT is registered as a Charitable Trust with registration number IV 13, dated 18/04/2019, with the Government of Bangladesh. The Trust is governed by a 4-member Board of Trustees.
