DSCN5198 90028 August 2017 // All the 751 Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) will vote on 14 September whether the previously weak report of the Internal Market Committee (IMCO) on the European Accessibility Act (EAA), which clearly favours business over people, is adopted or not. Because they want every MEP to be aware of their demands, the European Disability Forum (EDF) created a campaign video, "We need a strong Accessibility Act!". The video also illustrates that the Accessibility Act is not just a piece of paper but affects real people.

EDF invites people to share the video with their local MEPs and with other national decision-makers and government officials.

The IMCO report limits the EAA proposal so much, that it won't make any difference to the lives of persons with disabilities. For instance, having an accessible ticket machine or automated teller machine (ATM) in an inaccessible building would still not improve access for persons with disabilities.

To explain further why we need a strong Accessibility Act, EDF has developed a free Webinar on the European Accessibility Act for decision-makers, journalists and everyone interested, which will take place on Friday 8 September 2017 from 10h00 to 10h40 CEST. To take part in the webinar, register here.
