Captura de pantalla 2017 06 13 a las 16.20.1813 June 2017 // Today, IF publishes its Annual Report 2016. Using our 3 strategic objectives, primary prevention, right to health and community building, we highlight the activities we undertook last year to help improve the quality of life of people with Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus and their families, and to reduce the incidence of neural tube defects and hydrocephalus worldwide.

At the beginning of 2016, IF reacted to the draft European Accessibility Act (EAA) to point out its relevance to our community and the need to include health services and the built environment to make the Act as effective as possible. In March, on World Birth Defects Day, the PUSH! Global Alliance launched its new website and Global Report Cards to provide country-level information on hydrocephalus and spina bifida prevention efforts, access to care, quality of life, and availability of prevalence and mortality data. Next, IF participated in a GAIN workshop in Tajikistan, to demonstrate the importance of wheat flour fortification in the prevention of neural tube defects. In May, we launched our Good Practices website, which shows examples of our members’ projects and activities to promote participation and inspire other IF members. During the first 2016 IF European workshop, which took place in Budapest in June, IF presented an statement on Multidisciplinary Care to assist our members in their advocacy work.

In October, IF celebrated the 5th World Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus Day, launched the IF Global Prevention Initiative at our International Conference Turning Points in Ghent, and we presented both nurse Myleen Christiaens and Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Catalina Devandas with an IF Award. Also, Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus associations from five different countries joined IF’s membership. Welcome!

These are just some of the important dates and events that occurred last year. We encourage you to explore our 2016 Annual Report to learn more about the full scope of our work. You can read it here.

Thank you all very much for your interest and support and let’s keep working together for our Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus’ community!
